First I would like to talk about the history of the creation and development of the game. It all started with image boards, namely the site iichan.ru "Ychan". The development team was recruited from among enthusiasts who visited the imageboard. For a long time it did not have an official name and was modestly called Eroge team or simply Erogei, and only shortly before the release the name Soviet Games appeared.
In 2009, the first demo version was released. At the beginning of 2010, immediately after the release of the demo version, another change of screenwriter occurred, which delayed the possible release date. On New Year’s Eve 2011, a short visual novel “Winter Tale” appeared, telling about the New Year’s celebration in the “Owlet” camp. In June 2011, the main project received a new logo and the name “Endless Summer”. The next time the eroges reminded themselves of themselves was at the beginning of 2013, when they announced that the project was at the final stage of development and only a few pictures remained to be completed. But then few people believed them...

And then on November 5, 2013, another leak occurred. One of the project’s artists, Smolev, expressed dissatisfaction with the party’s policies and, as a sign of protest, made available to the public a preliminary build of “Endless Summer,” later called version 1.0. Probably, the leak forced the remaining developers to mobilize their forces, and already on December 21, 2013, the final version 1.1 was released, which differed from the leak by editing the most obvious bugs, some changes in graphics and texts, the appearance of achievements, and the addition of one new ending.
Thus, more than five years of development history was completed, and “Endless Summer” in many ways became a symbol of a bygone era for the imageboard...

I liked the plot of the novel, it’s very interesting, but at first it will be incomprehensible, maybe some people will find it banal or crazy.
Semyon, the main character of the game, a lonely social phobe and inhabitant of anonymous imageboards, goes to an alumni meeting one winter day, takes bus route No. 410, falls asleep and wakes up in the charming world of the Sovyonok camp, where he meets no less charming pioneer women. The main character tries to look for answers, but then resigns himself to what is happening and simply leads the life of an ordinary teenager in an ordinary camp. The game has 13 endings, two endings for each girl, good and bad, but there are also bonus endings if you are wondering what happened to Semyon all this time.

Slavya is a beautiful, blue-eyed girl with brown hair braided in two long braids. Kind, sympathetic, practically an assistant to the camp counselor.

Lena is a short girl with dark purple hair gathered into two ponytails sticking out in different directions. At first glance she is shy.

Ulyana is a girl of about 13, 14 years old. Cheerful and cheerful, she loves to play pranks and because of this she gets into conflict with the inhabitants of the camp.

Alice is a girl with short bright red hair tied in two ponytails in the shape of a lightning bolt. She is characterized by the image of a hooligan, but at the same time she is kind and fearful. Loves playing the guitar and Russian rock. The most popular among players.

Miku is a girl with turquoise hair tied in two long ponytails. Very talkative and cheerful.

The game has a lot of minor characters, but I won’t write about all of them.

Olga Dmitrievna - she is everyone and everything in the camp, a 25-year-old girl with brown hair and green eyes.

Anyone who has completed the game will understand.

Tolik is a seemingly almost bald pioneer of forty years old. Three-degree, background character. Visible only against the background of the dining room, in the farthest corner.

Zhenya is a short girl, with black hair and a sticking ponytail. He loves to read and spends all his time in the library.

Shurik and Elektronik are both blond and attend a cybernetics club. Shurik is the prototype of the hero of the films of the Soviet director Gaidai, and Elektronik is a reference to the Soviet film about Elektronika, he is sociable and in love with Zhenya.

Artist-kun, aka huyase, is the author of most of the “classic” mascot art. The initiator of the project, participated in the creation of character sprites.
SoraSora, aka Smolev, is an artist, author of sprites and event CG. Like Artist-kun, he is the author of many “classic” arts, mainly from Dvach-chan. He leaked the game in November 2013.
ArseniXC, VVCephei and Veel are the background artists. ArseniXC created most of the backgrounds, some of which use VVCephei 3D models. Veel provided the backgrounds for the mine scenes.

It wasn’t in vain that we worked for 5 years, right? Dreamtale, aka Rita Tainakova or simply Ritochka, is the screenwriter of the final version of “Endless Summer”. His contribution to the development causes a lot of controversy: on the one hand, he gave kicks and brought to the end a project that had been in limbo for several years, on the other hand, it was to him that the plot owes all the holes, inconsistencies and departures from the initial concept. He was also repeatedly criticized for his arbitrariness and making important decisions for the team alone. Actively communicates with the community, alconaut, bassist and interesting personality. Endless summer- perhaps the most famous of the Russians visual novels. Initially, the idea of ​​its creation appeared on anonymous imageboards as a product “for our own people,” but later it was expanded and became more understandable to those uninitiated in this subculture, although it retained a sufficient number of “ easter eggs"(in fact, the image board is already incomprehensible to the new generation - many do not even know that initially the characters of the game were the mascots of Dvach).

Plot

The protagonist of the game is the lonely and unsociable Semyon, approximately 25-30 years old. He leads the life of a stereotypical “dvacher” - he earns money from occasional freelancing, prefers to stay at home, spends a lot of time on anonymous image boards on the Internet and apparently suffers from mild depression. One day, one of his classmates still manages to persuade Semyon to go to the alumni meeting. The hero takes bus route 410 and falls asleep on the way.

He wakes up already at the gates of the summer pioneer camp with the unusual name “Owlet”, and in the middle of summer. Having come into contact with the inhabitants of the camp, he eventually realizes that he ended up in the USSR in the 1980s, then that no one here is surprised by his appearance, and he is mistaken for an ordinary pioneer. And then he also discovers that he has become younger and began to look like a high school student. The hero tries to understand what is happening in the hope of somehow returning to his time (I must say, he tries rather sluggishly, for which there are a couple of non-canonical explanations), but he soon becomes close to other pioneers and, especially, pioneer women. Over the course of seven days, Semyon is drawn into the life of the camp and experiences dizzying adventures, which in most routes end with a return to his world and an attempt to start a new life. Apparently, this “return” is also illusory: the hero is stuck in groundhog day, and his “new life,” no matter how long it lasts, ultimately leads him back to waking up on the day of his trip to the alumni meeting and ending up in the “Owlet.”

The player is required to read the story against the backdrop of pictures and from time to time make a choice between the character's decisions, which directs the plot in the right direction. At first, the hero, with the assistance of the player, can start a relationship with one of the four girls or remain alone. All of these story paths can end in a good or bad ending, depending on what actions the player takes. After receiving four good endings with girls and a good one for a single person, routes open for two more girls, one of whom the character had not seen before, although she was invisibly present nearby.

Characters

Having their own root in the canon

• Glorifying(this rare name completely sounds like Slavyana). Blonde-haired, blue-eyed and wears two braids, and also an athlete, a Komsomol member (future) and just a good girl. The counselor's right hand is, in fact, even painfully correct and efficient. At the same time, being a village resident, she is so close to nature that she does not hesitate to undress, even knowing that someone (Semyon, who else) is secretly watching her. It’s unclear what’s going on in her head, but she looks like the most sane person in this camp.
• Lena. Typical kudere, bookworm and quiet person. To further reflect her frostiness, the heroine wears her hair tied in two ponytails of an implausible purple color, which looks peculiar with her green eyes. Many players feel sorry for her, and of course. This poor thing seems to be afraid of everything in the world, shys away from harmless grasshoppers and owls, plays badminton with herself while no one is looking, and generally makes her want to hug and cry and wipe away her tears. Well, according to the screenwriter, Lena’s route was really written from the heart. A player who is unlucky enough to guess how and what to do the first time is guaranteed a shock. Let’s just say that Lena’s endings are strikingly different from the usual “meeted by chance in reality” / “didn’t meet anyone.” Okay, for those who are not afraid of spoilers. In the good ending, Semyon does not return to his world, but remains to live with Lena as his wife, and their family is quite nice. In the bad ending, Lena dies by cutting her veins, and upon his return Semyon does about the same thing to himself .

• Ulyana. Small fidget, to which the saying “tough in the ass” is quite applicable. No matter how much you want pedophiles since two years ago, the author nevertheless deduced Semyon’s relationship with Ulyana as a good, friendly one. An ally of her neighbor, Alice, in committing hooligan acts. She does crazy things, and the hero, willy-nilly, finds himself drawn into them. And Ulya also knows how to sleep so that you won’t wake up with a gun, sometimes hugging the main character like a bear.

• Alisa Dvachevskaya is a stern kid, no longer boy-girl, but on boy-babu still not pulling. Rebels against the System. Generates fanservice. He plays the guitar well. At the end of its route it still shows tender and soft side. Confidently leads in all character popularity ratings.
• Miku is the embodiment of the most famous Vocaloid in the image of a pioneer, a kind of guest star in Owl. In the interpretation of BL - daughter of a Soviet engineer and a Japanese woman, who has already begun a fairly successful singing career in her homeland. Talks too much. Sometimes he is touchingly amazed at the quirks of the broad Russian soul. In general, one gets the feeling that the cutie is either a little bread or a saint. In her route, she is called a “Down girl,” which is strange: in reality, people with Down syndrome have undeveloped and inhibited speech, but Miku chatters incessantly and her speech is very well developed. Perhaps this is because the hero who created her is her route didn't know the hardware. It features a mind-blowing trash-zombie-horror route that has nothing to do with the main plot. The role of Miku in it is played by the identical Masha, who differs from her character in much greater adequacy.
• Julia is the last of the girls who have their own route in the canon. Catgirl, watching the camp and making supplies for the winter, which still does not come. He can see all versions of the camp at once, but he only knows that he knows nothing. Appears in the flesh only after the discovery of the good endings of all the girls above plus the good ending of the loner, until then he only flickers somewhere in the background as a mysterious shadow. Her route is devoted largely not to romance, but the final revelation of all the secrets of the camp and characters, which doesn't really reveal anything.
• Zhenya is a grumpy librarian, to whom the add-on “The Story of a Pioneer” is dedicated, designed to close the remaining plot holes and add new ones. In the canon, she only slept in the library, argued with visitors, and, in general, was not remembered for anything special. In the add-on, it suddenly turned out that she was in a relationship with the main antagonist of the game, and this is not the coolest twist yet.

Minor

• Olga Dmitrievna is the counselor of our friendly group, in whose house Semyon had to live due to lack of free space. Pathologically lazy and loves to give orders. It takes an honorable first place in the number of fantasies in the spirit of “need root!”
• Viola (Violetta Tsernovna Collider) - a nurse in her prime, Miss Fanservice number two, a big fan non-traditional (ahem) treatment methods. In the release version, her role was significantly reduced; in earlier versions, it was she and her underground laboratory that were the cause of Semyon’s misadventures.
• Pioneer is one of the alternative versions of Semyon; he can travel between different versions of “Owlet”, but is intangible and cannot do anything. He also knows a little more than nothing. Appears in the route without a girl and in Yulia's route, does nothing, but gets on your nerves with his lectures - a plus. Judging by “The Story of One Pioneer”, he used to be material and how!
• Elektronik - copied from the character of the same name (he also looks similar) is a young genius of cybernetics, he also has the surname Syroezhkin.
• Shurik is also copied from the character of the same name and is also a genius of cybernetics, plus Elektronika’s best friend.

Plot elements and cliches

• - the game is like this. Thanks to the fact that (almost) all media files are under a free license, the culture of user scripts is thriving.
• Apocalyptic maniac- Pioneer, one of the alternative versions of Semyon , crazy from repetition and the loss of beloved Zhenya and who wanted to arrange a merry genocide for all versions of “Owlet”.
• Gainax end- one of the reasons for the considerable popularity of BL was the well-staged, but not a damn good ending. Partially corrected in "The Story of a Pioneer."
• Bouncing girl- Ulyana.
• A village with a sinister secret- only some hints remained in the released version, although in the old version of the script it was played more straightforwardly. In particular, the mines contained a huge underground biological laboratory, which was controlled by Viola. Julia was a humanoid who escaped from her, and her sisters they were bred there for organs.
• Lots of worlds- all possible passage options are closer to the end are declared equal and existing simultaneously, and some characters can move between different versions of Owl. And yes, we have only seen a tiny fraction of the possible developments of events, so similar approach allows you to make all mods and fanfictions part of the canon!
• Plot Hole- alas and ah, a lot due to the constant changes in scriptwriters and game concepts. Despite the fact that the last screenwriter confirmed, that these are precisely holes and they do not carry a deep meaning, it is thanks to them that fan fiction (including in such forms as the creation of user scripts and mods) blooms and smells.
  • And yet, why is it that our Semyon’s memory is erased at the beginning of each cycle? It is clear that if this were not the case, then a lot of work would have to be done with dynamic changes in the script, but how can this be explained in intra-world logic?
• Bookworm- Zhenya.
• Berserker button- never call Alice TwoChe.
• Kopirkin- they are here All characters. Even Semyon (obviously meant seimpersun). The original idea was to do eroge with mascots imageboard, but the development of the plot gradually led the characters to this status. Well, three real Kopirkins were brought in in the persons of Miku, Shurik and Elektronika.
• Cat People - Julia, the heroine of the final line.
• Favorite fan pairing- Semyon and Alisa, no matter what the Lenophagists and Slavophiles say. From non-standard- Alisa/Slavya and, of course, Shurik/Electronic.
• Love triangle- Semyon, Alice and Lena . It seems to be relatively standard, but the catch is that if you don't support Not the girl you have chosen, then you can’t expect a good ending with the chosen one .
• Love at first sight - Lena , but this becomes clear only at the very end and causes Semyon an absolutely realistic shock, forcing him overestimate all their adventures together.
