How to make a bedside table with forging yourself. Do-it-yourself bedside table. Features of the choice of a bedside table, depending on the style

The bedside table is an indispensable piece of furniture for every bedroom. You can keep in it any things that may be needed in this room and for which you do not want to get up and go to another room. You can also put glasses on it, put a night light or a glass of water at night. The bedside table for the bedroom has a simple design, making it easy to do it yourself.

Bedside tables come in a variety of designs and designs. When choosing a suitable model, you should rely on your financial capabilities, experience in carpentry work and the interior of the room in which the product will be located, in our case, this is a bedroom. Consider the main types of pedestals:

    Bedside table with drawers. This option is the most common and conservative. It will suit lovers of simple furnishings who do not gravitate towards fashion trends.

    Open bedside table. There are no drawers in this model, and all things are in plain sight. It is suitable for those who do not hide any objects from children and generally do not store many things in it.

    Bedside table with pull-out table. Such a model will be indispensable for people caring for the sick and disabled who find it difficult to get out of bed to eat.

    Hinged bedside table. This solution is suitable for bedrooms with limited area. The hinged version, as well as the floor one, can be open, or it can have a drawer or shelf. The curbstone is usually mounted on the wall, while freeing up space on the floor.

    Unusual design bedside table. There is already someone in that much. It all depends on imagination, craftsmanship and woodworking experience. If you want to add some unusual detail to the bedroom furnishings, then you can think about an unconventional design.

Do not forget about one important parameter of the bedside table - size. They should match the free space next to the bed. When installing it, there should be a little more space around. If the width of the bedside table is such that the product takes up all the space and rests on adjacent pieces of furniture, then it will only spoil the overall view and cause inconvenience. But it will also not be very beautiful if the bedside tables are narrow and too low. In other words, in everything it is necessary to adhere to the golden mean, and not go too far with any parameters.

All of the above options are quite possible to make with your own hands. The cost that a homemade bedside table will cost depends on its size, the number of drawers, the quality of the fittings and the material chosen for manufacturing. But today we will consider this process using the example of the simplest and cheapest, traditional model, which can easily be made by a person who does not have much experience in furniture production.

Tools you need to work

The most common tools will be required, which are most often in the arsenal of every man who from time to time is engaged in minor repairs and other household chores:

  • drill with a screwdriver attachment;
  • puncher (if any);
  • wood drills;
  • different screwdrivers;
  • cutter 35 mm. in diameter;
  • iron;
  • roulette;
  • pencil;
  • right angle tool with a ruler;
  • rags, sandpaper.

By the way, the iron on this list was not at all by mistake, as you first thought. The fact is that, whatever one may say, you will have to order the cutting of parts in the carpentry workshop, because to do it yourself, you need conditions, a special tool and special knowledge. To keep costs to a minimum, you can try saving on edgebanding. You can buy a 0.5 mm melamine edge in the store, choose it to match the shade of the future bedside table and glue it yourself. It has an adhesive side, which must be applied to the surface of the part and ironed with a hot iron. So that the surfaces to be glued together well, take a rag and, without waiting for the edge to cool, press it firmly and iron it.

The material from which we will make our bedside table

In order to determine the choice of materials, you need to study their types and properties, and also estimate how much you can spend on them. Chipboard cabinets are the cheapest. It is because of its low cost that this material has become widespread. And the most expensive are natural solid wood cabinets. But since we are making a simple, budgetary option today, then we will consider the materials not expensive:

    Chipboard. From this material we will make the facades of our bedside table with our own hands. Chipboard is a chipboard covered with a laminate as a decorative coating. This material has a rich palette of colors and textures, it is easy to process. But not everyone knows that it is impossible to carve out furniture details from it on your own, because if you cut it with an ordinary improvised tool, then the decorative coating will break off, and the place along which the saw passed will turn out to be torn and ugly. Therefore, if chipboard is chosen for the hand-made manufacture of the bedside table, then it is better to order the cutting of parts in the carpentry workshop.

    Fiberboard. This is a fibreboard, which is made in about the same way as chipboard, only wood fibers are used as a material, and not sawdust and shavings. Fiberboard is thinner and more flexible than particleboard. From this material, we will make the bottom of the drawer and the back wall of the bedside table (parts that are not visible from the side) in order to save money, because Fiberboard is cheaper than particleboard.

Tips and subtleties to consider when working with chipboard:

    laminated chipboard sheets can have different thicknesses - from 1 to 3.8 cm. Most often, a plate with a thickness of 1.6 cm is used;

    the size of the slab can also be any, therefore, for the sake of saving money, before sawing, draw a diagram of the layout of the parts on the slab and estimate what size it should be in order to fit all the structural elements on itself and at the same time leave a minimum of waste;

    before purchasing the material, it is important to examine it carefully. The surface of the slab should not have any damage, scratches, or gouges. If they are, then it is desirable that they are on only one side, otherwise, the product will look bad;

    you also need to pay attention to the degree of dryness of the material. It should not be saturated with water, otherwise, upon drying, it will warp, and it will simply be impossible to process it;

    when transporting already cut parts of the future structure, from the carpentry workshop to the house, you need to ensure that when the car bounces on bumps, they do not hit each other and on the body, and are not damaged. It would be best to overlay the bottom and sides of the body with foam or other material that can soften impacts, and tie the parts together.

Important information about fiberboard:

    the thickness of fiberboard furniture sheets is from 3 to 5 mm. The strength of the product depends on it. But most often this material is used for the manufacture of internal parts that are not visible from the outside. In terms of thickness, a three-millimeter sheet is optimal for these purposes;

    the sizes of fiberboard, like chipboard, can be different, but, unlike the latter, this is not very important. It so happens that there is simply no choice, and the store has only one format;

    there are no strict criteria for the quality of fiberboard. Any sheet will be suitable for our purposes. But still, it is better to refuse to buy if it has a wavy surface. After all, this means that the sheet is wet and warped, and now it will be very difficult to work with it.

Dimensions and number of parts for making a cabinet of the simplest design

To order in the carpentry workshop cutting the details of the bedside table, a drawing is required without fail. You should sit down at the table and draw with all its components, think over the dimensions, design and the number of identical parts. Let me remind you that in our case this is the simplest and cheapest model with a box without runners and laminated chipboard facades. Dimensions and number of parts:

    side parts of the bedside table measuring 77.2x50 cm - 2 pcs;

    bottom and shelf measuring 36.8x50 cm - 2 pcs;

    plinth and upper strips measuring 36.8x10 cm - 3 pcs;

    side parts of the box measuring 48x11 cm - 2 pcs;

    the walls of the box measuring 33.4x11 cm - 2 pcs;

    the front of the box measuring 15x39.5 cm;

    the door of the bedside table measuring 51.5x39.5 cm.

The slab from which the bedside table will be made is 1.6 cm thick. It is better to take the cover of the curbstone in the kitchen. Its size is 52.5x40 cm, and its thickness is 2.8 cm.

The back wall and bottom of the drawer can be made of cheaper fiberboard in the following dimensions:

    back wall measuring 67x39.5 cm;

    the bottom of the box measuring 47.5x36.5 cm.

The main fasteners will be euro furniture screws, for which you need to drill holes. In the planes we drill 8 mm in diameter, and in the ends - 5 mm in diameter. In the drawing, which was mentioned above, the number of holes should be indicated, and which of them are drilled where.

Hardware required for assembly

The choice of fasteners must be taken very responsibly, because how long the product will last depends to a greater extent on them. In a store that sells furniture fittings, you need to purchase:

    packing of self-tapping screws 4x30 for mounting the bedside table cover and the front panel of the box. They should be attached from the inside;

    Euro screws 5x70 in the amount of 22 pcs. They fix the base and strips. Screw in one Euroscrew on each side;

    packing of self-tapping screws 4x16 with a hidden head to fasten the hinges and fiberboard. When screwing into the bottom of the box, they should be buried in order to avoid scratches on the shelf;

    hinges for furniture in the amount of 2 pieces. It is necessary that they correspond to the diameter of the existing cutter;

    door and drawer handles in the amount of 2 pieces;

    If you wish, you can purchase adjustable furniture legs so that, if necessary, you can install the cabinet on an uneven floor. But this is optional.

Assembling the parts of the bedside table

The smallest chipboard sheet is 183x244 cm. 2.5 bedside tables of this size and design will come out of it, so before starting work, it makes sense to cooperate with someone from your friends or relatives, so as not to store the remaining material, but at the same time to divide expenses.

From all of the above, it is already quite clear how the assembly of the pedestal parts can be carried out, it remains only to mention two important technical details:

    When assembling a bedside table, it is imperative to control the correctness of the angles. All of them must be straight, otherwise, the structure will be skewed, and the facades will not open well.

    The distance from the edge of the door to the middle of the hinge holes is 2.2 cm. This is relevant for our case when we have a 3.5 cm cutter and the corresponding hinges. Above and below, the distance from the edges is usually from 6 to 8 cm. If there are no design features, then how much is not so important. Next, you just need to attach the door with the hinges fixed at the required height to the body and screw it with the fastening element.

When the assembly work is finished, you can put the product back in place and start using it.

If you have made facades from a material that does not have a decorative coating, then it is better to paint it. To do this, you must first degrease the surface, and then prime it. This operation is performed in order to achieve maximum adhesion of paint to the surface of the bedside table.

After the primer layer is completely dry, you can start painting. It is best to use a water-based acrylic paint. It dries quickly and does not give off the same odor as solvent-based paints. It is better to apply the dye in two layers, and before applying the second one should thoroughly dry the first one.

For the main work, a large brush is suitable, and for painting hard-to-reach places - a small one. After the product is completely dry, you can fix the result with a layer of furniture varnish.

part3

While it is winter outside, you can take care of the house, namely the bedroom.

In our bedroom there is already a homemade bed 200x220, the ceiling is made and we are already. Now the turn has come to the makeshift bedside tables.

Unfortunately, I did not have time to record the process of creating a bed on the camera, but it was done according to this example:

The main material is, viz. Alpina Schokoladenbraun RAL (8017) paint - matt dark brown. The bedside tables were made on the basis of the same picture.

Unfortunately, it was not possible to photograph the very process of making the blanks for the bedside tables, since I ordered them from a local carpenter. I will briefly describe what parts each bedside table will consist of:

  • table top - 1 piece
  • sidewalls - 2 pcs.
  • lower inner shelf - 1 piece
  • drawer sides - 4 pcs
  • box front and back walls - 4 pieces
  • drawer front - 2 pieces
  • lower part facade - 2 pieces
  • handles - 2 pcs.
  • drawer guides - 4 pcs
  • the back wall of the curbstone - 1 piece
  • the bottom of the boxes - 2 pieces
  • furniture corners (plastic double) - 6 pieces

I must say right away that the table top, sides and fronts of the drawers are made of pine, the drawers and the bottom shelf are made of chipboard, and the back wall of the cabinet is made of fiberboard with a thickness of 5 mm.

So having received all the necessary blanks, I started painting. The painting process itself was also not photographed, since it was very cold and this article is not about painting. By the way, I have also told you.

I painted all the details except the lower shelves. Of course, this is a little not aesthetically pleasing, but these shelves are not visible, so I decided not to apply expensive paint on them.

We start assembling the bedside tables by screwing the furniture corners to the inner side of the sidewall. We fasten 2 corners in the upper part flush, and 2 more in the lower part with an indent of 10 cm from the end.

We attach the tabletop to the upper corners, and to the lower corners the lower inner shelf made of chipboard. Do not be alarmed if, after assembling 4 parts, the frame of the bedside table is slightly skewed. This is lined with a back wall made of fiberboard.

A few words about the countertop. Its dimensions were conceived as 600 x 400 mm. The width turned out to be this, but the depth turned out to be 3-6 centimeters more (from 430 at the edges to 460 mm in the center), since it is slightly oval in the area of the front part to match the design of the bed and to come out a little forward.

After the frame of the bedside tables is assembled, we proceed to fastening the guides for the bedside tables.

We calculated so that they were attached to the bottom of the boxes. I will say right away that this was a small mistake. Better to attach the runners to the middle of the drawers. Then they will not touch the facades of the bedside tables.

The guides should be 5-10 cm less than the depth of the bedside tables. They are mounted flush on the front side.

These are the handles I chose for the drawers.

They were originally gray. I had to buy a can of gold paint and paint it in one layer so that the handles match the color of the lamps and the chandelier. After the paint, I opened them with another layer of varnish just in case.

Having painted the fronts of the drawers in one layer, I proceeded to drilling the holes for the handles.

It is clear that they need to be done exactly in the center, so be careful and remember the immortal rule "Measure seven times, drilled once".

This is how the fronts with handles looked like after one coat of paint.

And so after the third layer. Of course, I took off the pens before painting.

After that, we start assembling the boxes.

We fasten them together using self-tapping screws, having previously drilled holes with a thin drill (so as not to damage the workpiece when tightening the screws).

This is how the assembled boxes look like.

After that, we proceed to fastening the bottom of the boxes using a stapler. On one side we fasten flush, and the rest are already aligned under the bottom so that there are no distortions.

We drill holes for self-tapping screws, which will be used to fasten the fronts of the boxes.

After attaching the facades to the drawers, we fix the lower fixed facade using 2 furniture corners.

That's all. Our bedside tables look like this:

Of course, there is nothing special in the design of these bedside tables, but they are made almost entirely by hand, with a soul, painted on their own, in the end, and all this together is worth a lot (if you know what I mean).

There are a lot of things that should be at hand at the right time - for example, a mobile phone, a cup of tea, a newspaper or a book, a pen, glasses and so on. For such things, the bedside table is intended, in which dozens of useful little things are stored. How a do-it-yourself bedside table is made will be discussed in today's article.

If you choose the right bedside table, then it will go well with the bed, look like a single ensemble with it. Note, though, that the color of the pedestal can contrast in this case. The dimensions in this case must be selected with special attention - it is important that the bedside table does not turn out to be "trapped" by the bed and the wall, since you should always leave enough free space. But if free space is in short supply, then it is better to give preference to a hanging pedestal- in that case it will fit better.

On a note! For a bedroom, a cabinet with closed and open shelves is perfect, which will allow you to hide your personal belongings from outsiders, while a vase of flowers or various kinds of decorative items can be placed on open shelves. Alternatively, you can make a coffee table with your own hands.

A few words about the functionality of the bedside tables

If you plan to store a large number of small items, then it is better to give preference to a cabinet with many boxes. If only a few books will be stored there, then you can acquire a light non-standard design, abandoning the massive traditional "cube".

The optimal location for the bedside table is near the bed. It's not even worth talking about the benefits of a bedside table - you can store books here, and set an alarm clock on top or, say, a glass of water. In addition, in the nightstand there can be a place for linen - both underwear and bed linen - or a first-aid kit, cosmetics and other things that are irreplaceable in everyday life. And for the most convenient and ergonomic arrangement of all this "goodness", the selection of a bedside table must be taken with full responsibility.

Obviously, it is the floor construction that is the most common. In addition, such a cabinet can be of two types:

  • without legs;
  • with legs.

The original version - an open bedside table without legs

A somewhat less common option is suspended. By virtue of its design features, it looks weightless, as if floating in the air.

In any case, you will have to decide for yourself which cabinet to buy / make with your own hands - it all depends on the interior features of the bedroom and your personal preferences. But note that the hanging cabinet still has a significant advantage over the floor cabinet - it allows you to place some items underneath (say, a basket for various little things or a box).

Also bedside tables are classified according to their shape. Let's take a look at the most common options.

Rectangular / square... Such designs are universal, and therefore will easily fit into any design. In addition, they can be located anywhere in the room.

Corner... The best option for small rooms.

Oval / round... They look, of course, elegant, but they are not universal, therefore they will not be appropriate in every interior.

Important! There are also more exotic pedestals, such as the design in the form of a pyramid or a chest. Yes, such bedside tables can hardly be considered universal and functional - they are rather decorative interior items.

Another classification is based on the purpose of the pedestals. Special attention should be paid to the medical one, which should be in every home.

Features of the choice of a bedside table, depending on the style

Yes, there is a different kind of bedside table for every interior style. And it is not surprising, because we are talking not only about a useful thing, but also about an element of the interior that can focus on the stylistic orientation of the room or, as an option, nullify all efforts. How to organically fit the bedside table into the interior? Let's get acquainted with the most popular styles and find out which designs are suitable for each specific case.

East style... In this case, the ideal option is a small-legged bedside table made of rattan. Frequent weaving, natural colors, traditional rectangular silhouette will look great.

Classic style... Here, preference should be given to furniture made of natural wood. You can, for example, use a large and squat cabinet with curly handles as decorative elements. As for the color, dark tones will look good in the classic style. A bedside table that meets all these requirements will emphasize the aristocracy and fundamental nature of the classics.

Palazzo... The main thing in Italian style is attention to detail (aged or varnished shelves, wrought iron elements, etc.).

Scandinavian... For him, the best option would be a white cabinet made of natural wood and not having unnecessary decorative elements. The design should be as simple as possible. A good option is an unpainted beech bedside table. Give preference to massive legs and narrow, simple shapes.

Scandinavian-style interior - rational but very attractive

Provence... For this style, wooden pedestals are suitable, preferably with graceful outlines and narrow curly legs.

Minimalism, hi-tech... Obviously, structures with metal frames are more suitable for these styles. Glass doors will be a great addition. In doing so, it is important that a minimum of unnecessary parts are used.

What material to use for the bedside table?

Most often, in this matter, the difficulty is caused by the choice of material from which the bedside table is made. Let's take a look at the most popular options.

Can you save some money?

Any repair work is, first of all, a blow to the seed budget. Yes, it is at least inexpedient to save on building materials, but the situation can be saved by making furniture with your own hands - by the way, even a non-professional can cope with this, having detailed step-by-step instructions. Undoubtedly, this applies mainly to simple subjects. A bedside table, for example, can be made quickly and inexpensively with your own hands.

On a note! You cannot save on materials for self-production. After all, everyone knows that the miser has to pay more than once. If you use low quality consumables, the work may have to be redone.

Making a bedside table - drawings and preparation

First you need to decide on the design of the future bedside table. You can draw a drawing on paper, although it is easier to use special computer programs (Google SketchUp, T-FLEX Furniture, Astra Furniture Designer). In any case, you need to know exactly the parameters of the structure - height, length, width ...

Blanks can be ordered from your nearest carpentry shop. Here, of course, it is better to trust the specialists, but you can still save money. So, you can glue the edge on the end of the boards with your own hands using a regular iron. To do this, you need to purchase a tape and, using an iron, fix it at the ends of the blanks. You can go even further - make your own blanks using chipboard boards. But in this case, the workpieces will have to be additionally processed with a grinding machine so that their surface is smoother. Also, all elements should be treated with a stain to protect against harmful environmental influences.

Now all that remains is to assemble all the elements into one structure using glue and self-tapping screws. The workpieces ordered in the carpentry workshop must be connected with hexagon bolts - for such a fastening, holes of the required size must first be made.

At the end, the selected fittings are installed. By the way, when choosing it, you need to be guided by both external attractiveness and functionality. The edges must be glued.

On a note! Now let's take a closer look at the process of making a bedside table with our own hands. Below are step-by-step instructions for making a few simple options that might interest you.

Video - Bedside table

Option number 1. Simple bedside table with your own hands

This example will walk you through the process of assembling from blanks ordered from a carpentry shop. So, for work will be used:

  • 6 furniture corners (plastic double);
  • 1 table top;
  • 2 drawer bottoms;
  • 2 sidewalls;
  • 1 back wall of the bedside table;
  • 1 inner bottom shelf;
  • 4 guides;
  • 4 front / back walls for drawers;
  • 2 handles;
  • 2 drawer fronts;
  • 2 fronts of the lower part.

Note also that for the manufacture of the bottom shelf and drawers, chipboard sheets were used, for the facades and sides of the drawers, for the countertops - wood (pine), and for the back wall of the structure - 5 mm fiberboard.

After the receipt of all the required blanks, painting begins. There is nothing complicated in the process itself, so let's just get acquainted with the result of the work.

The lower shelves were not painted - even if it was not very attractive, but still no one would see them.

To begin with, furniture corners are screwed to the inner side of the sidewall - 2 at the bottom (100 mm from the edge), 2 flush on top, as in the photo.

An internal chipboard shelf is attached to the lower corners, and a tabletop is attached to the upper corners. When 4 frame elements are assembled, the structure may be slightly skewed - do not be alarmed, everything will be aligned with the help of the back wall.

Important! By the way, about the countertop. In our example, its width is 600 mm, and its depth is from 430 mm (at the edges) to 460 mm (in the center). As a result, in front, the tabletop turned out to be somewhat convex to match the design of the bed.

After assembling the frame, the guides are attached.

In our example, they are screwed to the bottom of the boxes, but this is a little wrong. It is preferable to fasten the guides to the middle of the boxes so that they do not touch the facades. In addition, the length of the guides should be less than the depth of the entire structure, somewhere by 5-10 cm. They must be fastened flush from the front side.

Below you can see the handles that have been chosen for the drawers.

After painting the facades in one layer, the places of future holes for the handles are marked.

This is how facades with handles painted in one layer look.

And this is how they should look after applying the third layer of paint (pens, of course, must be removed before each painting).

The next step is the assembly of the boxes.

The details of the boxes are fastened with self-tapping screws, for which holes were pre-drilled with a thin drill.

The collected crates should look something like the following.

The bottom of each box is attached using a stapler. On one side, the bottom is flush-mounted, while on the other it is aligned so as to avoid distortions.

After that, the boxes are attached to the guides.

The facades are attached to the boxes. After that, a fixed facade is attached, for which a pair of furniture corners is used.

Option number 2. Unique pine bedside table

Today, it is not easy to find a truly original, but at the same time simple bedside table. And if you previously dealt with wood, then we suggest making such a unique design with your own hands.

Table. Instructions for making a pine bedside table.

Steps, photoDescription of actions

To begin with, all the necessary tools shown in the image are prepared.

The material will be natural wood (pine), which you can buy at a hardware store.

The work starts from the inside of the future structure.

The boards are connected together as shown in the image.

They are also installed vertically.

After that, the lower and upper parts of the bedside table are nailed.

The result should look something like the following.

Here are the materials you need to make the box.

First, the bottom of the box is created.

Photo of the work done.

After that, the guides are nailed.

The second rail is nailed on the opposite side of the box.

The finished box will look something like this.

It remains only to insert the finished box into place. That's it, a simple wooden cabinet is ready!

At the end, you can paint it (preferably white paint) or cover it with wood stain.

Option number 3. Pallet bedside table

To minimize costs in the manufacture of a bedside table, you can take pallets from building materials. They (pallets) can be not only wooden, but also metal, plastic.

Pallets have many standard sizes, but often only 2 are used: Pallets are used for the manufacture of the curbstone

As for the tools, you will need:

  • pencil, square and tape measure;
  • mount;
  • screwdriver;
  • hammer;
  • clamps;
  • Circular Saw;
  • holdfast;
  • Sander;
  • electric jigsaw;
  • ballerina (or hole saw);
  • screwdriver;
  • electric drill.

On a note! If we talk about glue, then it is better to give preference to PVA - it dries quickly, the connection provides strong, and when squeezed out it can be easily removed.

Stage No2. Dismantling the pallet

Of course, new lumber can be used instead of old pallets, but the cost of the bedside table will greatly increase because of this. Therefore, we begin this instruction by parsing the pallet.

To work, you need a hammer and a pry bar. To minimize damage to the tree, it is recommended to first loosen the boards using a chisel. By the way, an electric reciprocating saw is perfect for dismantling - its metal blade should be inserted along the junction of the boards in order to cut the nails connecting them. After that, the nails can be removed with ease, while the wood will practically not deteriorate.

Drawing of a wooden bedside table

With the help of a circular saw, 10 boards are cut with a length of 520 mm each (the length can be any). Slats are selected for the back wall and those that are suitable for the side ones in quality. Each of the sets of planks is cleaved together to measure the overall width. The resulting figure will be required when creating rectangular frames.

Each frame is made from 4 bars. When cutting bars, it is very important to adhere to all dimensions exactly.

Note! It is advisable to use a hand tool for cutting the workpieces, and not an electric one - so the results will be more accurate. You will be surprised, but a hacksaw for metal is ideal for this. If we consider power tools, then preference should be given to a band jigsaw, but, alas, not every home craftsman has one.

Stage 4. Rectangular frames

When all the blanks are done, rectangular frames are assembled. In the finished cabinet, the latter will not be visible, and therefore you do not need to worry too much about the aesthetics of their connection. The width of each workpiece is 7 cm.In the absence of screws of the required length, holes are made 12 cm with a drill to 1⁄2 the width of the bar.

You need to make sure that the dimensions of both frames are identical... When tightening the screws, it is recommended to clamp the lower and upper parts together so that they exactly match in size.

Stage 5. Planks under the worktop

At the end of the previous stage, blanks for the table top of the structure are cut. Pieces of the required length are cut with a circular saw with a small allowance.

Stage 6. Grinding workpieces

The boards are thoroughly cleaned with a grinder before starting the assembly of the frame. Of course, you can try to do it manually, but with a grinder it is both better and easier. The movements should be circular - this will create a beautiful texture.

Note! If you want, you can get an unusual effect - for this, the outer surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned (almost to a mirror shine), and then processed with coarse coarse sandpaper to deliberately create defects and irregularities.

Stage 7. Frame

Only nails are used for the final assembly of the structure body. Additionally, you can use glue, but this is not necessary - the frame will already be strong enough.

It is important that the wood is dry during work, otherwise it will dry out while already in the house, and its attractiveness will noticeably decrease. Yes, this can later be attributed to the rustic style, but nevertheless, it is advisable to pre-dry the tree.

First of all, the top cover is assembled on a rectangular frame. The ends of the boards that go beyond the structure are brought to the required dimensions with a grinder.

Next, the back and side walls are nailed. Let's make a reservation right away that this is quite difficult to do - the lower frame must be well fixed, otherwise the squareness will be violated when the nails are driven in. After that, the front surface is assembled.

Bonding plywood inserts

  • The required piece of plywood is marked and cut with a saw.
  • After measuring the height in the workpiece from which the front wall is formed, an 8 mm deep groove is cut out. Plywood will be inserted into this groove.
  • The rest of the walls are cut off.
  • The walls of the box are placed on top of the plywood, connected with nails (you can additionally use glue).

  • Due to the fact that it is the box that will be subject to the greatest loads, its walls can be additionally connected with iron corners - so its rectangularity and strength will be preserved.

    Stage 10. Shelf

    When the box is ready (its front wall will be finalized a little later), you can begin to strengthen the shelf. A pair of rails are attached to the side walls with screws, after which it remains only to make sure that the box moves freely inside the structure. If so, then you can safely nail the shelf to the slats. By the way, to mark its position, you can first place the box inside to draw a couple of lines a few millimeters higher than the side walls.

    Stage 11. Heart-shaped cutout

    First, note that the cutout on the front wall can be of any shape - it all depends on your personal preference. In accordance with our project, it will have the shape of a heart, although you can simply make a simple pattern from several small holes (you can drill them with a drill).

    1. So, first, a piece of the board of the required size is cut off.
    2. Next, a heart is drawn on the board, it must have the correct shape. If a hole saw is used for cutting, for example, 3.2 cm, then it can serve as a template.
    3. A hole pair is drilled with a hole saw.
    4. Any pieces that remain are finally cut out with a jigsaw.
    5. After that, the front wall of the drawer remains completely assembled, which will require all the same nails and glue.
    6. On a note! Cutouts and other shapes will look great - these can be, for example, images of card suits. However, for this, the bedside table must have an appropriate number of drawers.

      Stage 12. Finishing touches

      After completing the assembly, the cabinet can be covered with transparent varnish in order to protect the wood and reveal the details of its texture. Moreover, the varnish can be tinted a little with pigment (white or black) - this way you get a slight gray haze.

      So what you need to do:

    • clear the tree;
    • sand it with sandpaper No. 150;
    • clean again;
    • cover with a layer of varnish, then wait at least 4 hours;
    • sand lightly with 200 grit sandpaper;
    • clean again;
    • apply a second coat of varnish.

    Note! The finished bedside table will look great if you treat the surfaces with wood stain before applying varnish. By the way, instead of stain, you can use a solution of potassium permanganate or iodine, diluted tea, and so on.

Only in this way can you successfully complete the work, and the product will delight the eyes of household members and be convenient to use. The only thing that you may not have to do yourself is cutting the material.

    Preparatory work

    If you will be doing a bedside table with your own hands, then you need to prepare the following tools: a drill-screwdriver, a set of bits, a cutter, a tape measure, an iron, a pencil, sandpaper, a carpentry tool, a set of drills. The best solution would be to use a cordless screwdriver, which is true if the household also has a hammer drill. Drills should be selected according to the tree, but as for the set of bits, then it should have a hexagon for confirms. Be sure to prepare a right angle with a measuring ruler. You should also have a dry cloth close at hand. For the reason that the sawing of laminated chipboard will be carried out in a workshop, you should expect that you will have to transport sheets, the dimensions of which are 1830x2448 mm, on your own or with outside help. These dimensions are the smallest. That is why experts recommend saving on edgebanding.

    Today, a melamine variety is sold, the thickness of which is 0.5 mm. Due to the fact that this element has an adhesive base, it will be quite easy to install it. To do this, attach it to the required end and iron it with a heated iron. A dry cloth will help strengthen the hot edge for maximum grip. The excess should be disposed of with a blunt knife, sanding the edges with sandpaper.

    Detailing

    When doing a bedside table with your own hands, it is important to familiarize yourself with the detailing. However, the internal content may vary. Everything will depend on the desired appearance and functionality, as well as the budget that you plan to spend on fittings. Details of the simplest and cheapest piece of furniture will be described below, but runners and facades will be made of chipboard. As for the side parts, you will need two of them. In the first case, the element size will be 772x500 mm, while the bottom and the shelf should have dimensions equal to 368x502 m. There should be two upper planks, but there should be only one base / plinth, the dimensions of these components are 368x100 mm. It is important not to forget about the side parts of the box, there should be two of these elements, and their dimensions are equal to 480x110. It will not be possible to create a structure without a back and front walls, there should also be two of them, and the dimensions are 334x110 mm. The facade is limited to 150x395 mm, and the cabinet door has dimensions equal to 515x395 mm. The above dimensions are for a chipboard with a thickness of 16 mm. The worktop should be kitchen work, and its thickness is 28 mm, while the length and width are 525x400 mm. When doing a bedside table with your own hands, it is important to know not only how to glue the edge, but also how to prepare the parts for assembly.

    Preparation of consumables

    The fastener can be a confirmation, for which you will need to drill holes. Their diameter should be 8 mm, while when the holes are located at the end, the diameter should be reduced to 5 mm.

    Preparation of fittings

    Even if you are planning to purchase an inexpensive option of fasteners, then this should be taken seriously. Confirmations must be purchased in the amount of 22 pieces, their dimensions are 5x70 mm. The plinth and tie bars will be installed on one confirmation, each of which must be located on one side. Self-tapping screws must be purchased in the volume of one package, dimensions - 4x30 mm. They will then be needed for other household chores, but in the case of a curbstone, they are used to screw the countertop to the slats. As for the facade, in this case the self-tapping screw is installed to the front wall of the box. In this case, the fasteners must be located inside so that they cannot be seen. You will also need self-tapping screws with dimensions of 4x16 mm, they must also be purchased in the amount of 1 package. With their help, you will strengthen the hardboard and the hinges; it is important to purchase fasteners with a countersunk head. Find 2 matching hinges. The cutter has a diameter of 35 mm, the hinges, accordingly, must be suitable. If you wish, you should purchase decorative furniture handles that are installed on the facade. Additionally, you can get handle screws with a length of 35 mm.

    Cabinet making process

    When creating a bedside table with your own hands, a photo of which is presented in the article, you can use one sheet of chipboard, it will make 2.5 products. The assembly is very simple, in addition to the sidewalls from the bottom, you can screw them on, which are simply called "hooves". They help to install the cabinet on uneven floors. If you will be manufacturing, then you can purchase adjustable legs, which can be found in a furniture store. First, the master makes a selection for the hinges. It should be remembered that the step from the edge of the facade to the central part of the hole should be 22 mm. For hinges with a landing dimension of 35 mm, markings should be made at the top and bottom of the door. This is usually done at the level of 80 mm, but this parameter cannot be called critical. The next step is to install the façade with twisted hinges, then everything is fixed to the body. When you make a do-it-yourself TV bedside table, you can use the same dimensions, since they are great, while it is important to remember that when assembling the box and box, you need to check the geometry of the resulting parallelepiped. Otherwise, the product will turn out to be lopsided, and the facades will be impossible to open or close.

    Making a bedside table or shoe cabinet

    In order to make the structure for a bed or for shoes more stable, you can make it in the shape of a trapezoid, while the product is assembled on dowels. One of the side ends of the bottom must be cut down, this applies to covers and sticks. In this case, an angle of 10 ° must be used. An electric saw and guides are perfect for this. At the next stage, on the cut ends, you need to select the grooves for the keys, while placing a flat board under the cutter. The latter, including the workpiece and the workbench, should be compressed with a clamp. Before starting the assembly of the cabinet, all fittings should be temporarily fixed, this will allow you to determine its exact location.

    Sequence of work

    When a bedside table is being made to the left side wall, you first need to attach the top cover using the dowels. At the next stage, the right side panel is strengthened, and the structure must be in a lying position. Once the adhesive has set, the back wall can be fixed to the body. The surface must be sanded, the edges are varnished before painting. After the curbstone is turned upside down, you can screw the rollers to the corners, each of them must be fixed with two washers and nuts. When it is made by hand, you can be guided by the same technology, while on the door you have to mark the places for 50 mm from the bottom and top ends. As for the side edge, it is necessary to retreat from it 22 mm. To install the hinges, you need to drill holes at the intersections of the lines. The master retreats from the top cover about 3 mm, this will allow in the future to ensure easy closing and opening of the door.

    Final work

    If you are thinking about how to make a bedside table with your own hands, then at the next stage it is necessary to assemble for this in the lower part of the three sides, grooves should be provided. The ends of the rear and front walls are sawn off at an angle of 10 °. It is important to remember that the sides of the box must be butt-connected to each other. Roll-out mechanisms should be installed at the same stage, it is best to use roller guides, since they are easy to install and durable in operation.
